Whether she is performing on the opera stage, at the Woodford Folk Festival, or performing her original songs in the Sydney Opera House accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Kate Miller-Heidke is one of Australia’s most talented and versatile performers. As a composer, she is equally at home writing contemporary popular songs or songs for music theatre.
In these interviews, Kate talks about composing and the characteristics of her unique style. She then turns to her song, You’ve Underestimated Me, Dude and talks about how and why she wrote the song, how she conveyed mood as well as how she used musical elements and devices.
The section has two worksheets for students to complete; one on creating mood and the second on analysing her personal style of composing.
